Tape and Kumihimo Factory, Gifu, Japan

Since we have sustainability in mind, we wanted to reduce the wastage that comes from making textiles. Usually there is left over yarns that factories unfortunately throw away because it doesn’t reach the volume to make more fabric or simply can’t be reused. That is when we had an idea to make our brand label from the left over yarns (instead of printing MAOTA on a label) from our first collection.

We are working with a local tape factory from Gifu to make our brand labels. It won’t say our brand name, but we believe that our fabrics creating them from scratch from the yarn doesn’t only support Japanese craftsmanship, but also sustainability. We constantly want to ask ourselves how we can make high quality apparel while supporting Japanese craftsmanship while also supporting a circular way to create garments.
